Ever wondered about all those permissions you grant to any app you install on your smartphone?
There is a reason most of them are free…
Most people do not bother to read the permissions or simply don’t care. However plenty are very invasive and include the right to, for example, access your camera and take photos or record video. Others can make calls without you knowing. You get the idea.
I can understand why an app like Skype would need access to your camera but why would a banking app need the same permission? If the permission is not obvious regards the purpose of the app then you need to be sure you really need the app.
So, at the risk of product placement it is worth checking of McAfee’s new app, D Central 1. It scans your phone and tells you which of your installed apps present a security risk and details exactly what permissions you have granted them.
You then have the option to uninstall or ‘trust’ each app.
